Energy for Sustainable Homes

This 1-day interactive course is relevant to anyone who's job or personal interests requires an understanding of how energy use is measured in homes and how to reduce energy use and loss. By the end of the day, you will:

  • come away with an understanding of how the standard assessment procedure (SAP) calculates energy use and energy loss
  • have an insight into building lower carbon homes and the future direction of SAP
  • be able to advise on CO2 reduction and cost savings for different designs

You will also see software for the Code for Sustainable Homes and understand the relevance of SAP to the Code. Particularly useful if you're trying to achieve a Code rating or have just qualified as a Code Assessor.

Key areas covered:

  • basics of energy
  • energy loss in homes: space heating, water heating, appliances
  • energy/heat generation in the home
  • interpreting SAP
  • fuel factors
  • building lower carbon homes
  • expected evolution of SAP over time

A dynamic mixture of presentations, workshops and discussions means an enjoyable and rewarding day of learning for everyone.

We can run this course in-house for as little as £100 per person per day (ex VAT). In-house events are useful for teams to discuss specific design solutions.  The training can be focused around specific issues your development or policy team would like addressed, including team building exercises or the development of action plans.
