GRADUATE SOFTWARE ENGINEER

Are you interested in shaping the future of sustainability in the housing sector and having an impact on the UK’s economy? Are you an upcoming software engineer with an interest in machine learning and strategic decision-making in a business context, looking to accelerate your career? Are you comfortable in using mathematical modelling & data processing, Python or MATLAB? If so this may be the role for you.

The Role

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic graduate.  You will lead and deliver the 36 month Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between Sustainable Homes and the University of Surrey.  This is a strategic project; the aim is to build an advanced predictive tool to improve business decision making.  This will promote sustainable living for the social sector and provide efficient savings to housing providers.  The predictive tool will provide access to real-time data, and enable better decisions to be made which will facilitate cost effective planning of complex new builds and maintenance programmes.  In turn, this will help predict customer behaviour, reducing risk and uncertainty from income collection or expensive responsive repairs.

Person

The ideal candidate will have an MSc in Computer Science, Computer science with business, or a related discipline with a background in mathematic modelling, statistical data processing, business computing, and distributed systems.

You should have experience in machine learning and database development, possibly in a commercial setting. You should be ready to apply these skills to help improve business efficiency and improve sustainability in social housing.  Knowledge of the Housing Sector and sustainability will be highly beneficial, as will experience and an interest in strategic decision-making in business.

We require a self-starter who will perform beyond the bounds of the immediate tasks set and create real impact for Sustainable Homes. The successful candidate will develop a diverse range of technical skills such as database design, and business decision making, in order to become a manager of tomorrow within this environment. You will be demonstrably pragmatic, efficient, creative, highly proactive and able to work well on your own initiative with strong project management, and interpersonal skills; with the ability to communicate at all levels.
